Biography

Prof. Ray Powles is a world-renowned haemato-oncologist with a distinguished career in bone marrow transplantation and myeloma treatment. He was instrumental in Europe’s first successful allogeneic bone marrow transplant in 1973 and pioneered the use of cyclosporine, autologous stem cell transplants, and haemopoietic growth factors in clinical practice.

He spent over three decades at the Royal Marsden Hospital, leading its Myeloma Unit and establishing a database that influenced global research. Prof. Powles has held key advisory roles, including the UK Department of Health’s Emergency Preparedness Group and the European Blood and Marrow Transplant (EBMT) Nuclear Accident Committee.

Internationally recognised for his contributions, he has published over 1,200 scientific works and served on major medical boards. He remains active in research, patient care, and global health initiatives.
